This website

This website has no accounts, no cookies, no analytics and no advertising, and it loads nothing from other companies’ servers. Its only form is the early-access signup described below. Like any web server, ours may keep ordinary request logs (such as IP address, page requested and time) for security and troubleshooting.

Early-access and early-bird offers signup (waitlist)

If you join the early-access list on this website (including to hear about early-bird offers) we collect:

• Your email address and the time you agreed to be emailed.
• A hashed IP address. We store a one-way hash (SHA-256 with a secret salt) of your IP address, never the IP address itself. It is used only to limit abuse and duplicate signups.
• Your browser’s user agent (browser and device type, shortened), for the same abuse-prevention purpose.
• Which part of the site you signed up from (for example “hero” or “coming-soon”).

Purpose. We use your email only to tell you about Mapish’s launch, early access and early-bird offers. We do not sell it or share it for advertising.

Retention. We keep your details until you unsubscribe or, at the latest, 12 months after Mapish launches. After you unsubscribe we keep only what is needed to remember not to email you.

Unsubscribe. Every email we send will contain an unsubscribe link. You can also email [email protected] to be removed and your details erased.

Your rights (New Zealand Privacy Act 2020). You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and to have it corrected or deleted by emailing [email protected]. If you are not satisfied with our response you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz). The agency holding this information is APPSTECH LIMITED.

What the app collects

• Location. The app asks for your device location (approximate or precise) to find nearby fuel stations, restaurants, shops and other stops, and show distances. Your position is sent to our servers as part of nearby-place searches. You can instead pick a place on the map, and you can browse without an account.
• Account details. When you create a profile: an email address, a display name, and your home country and language. A sign-in identifier from our sign-in provider is also stored to link your profile to you.
• Price reports. When you report a price: the station, fuel type, price and time, how accurate your location was, and how far you were from the station, your country, and the app version. Your exact GPS coordinates are not shown publicly.
• Price alerts. Your fuel type, target price, the area (a point and radius) and optional brand filter.
• Vehicles and fill-ups. Vehicle details you enter (label, make, model, year, usual fuel), your logged fill-ups and the estimated savings worked out from them.
• Car Bluetooth link (in development). If you link a car, the app stores the name of the Bluetooth device and records drive sessions (start and end time and distance). This needs the Bluetooth permission on Android. This feature is not yet tested with real cars.
• Server logs. Our servers log each request’s method, path, status and duration for reliability.

Photo price reports (coming)

Reporting a price with a photo of the pump sign is planned. It is designed so that photos are kept private, have location metadata (EXIF) removed, and are stored separately from the main database. It is not available yet.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your personal information.
• The app does not include advertising or analytics software.

Who else is involved

• The app shows maps using Google Maps, which is subject to Google’s own terms and privacy policy.
• Sign-in is designed to use Google’s Firebase Authentication service.
• Turn-by-turn navigation opens in the maps app on your phone; we do not receive what happens there.

Deleting your account

In the app, go to your profile and choose Delete account. This deactivates your account and removes your email address, display name and sign-in identifier from your profile record.

Price reports you made are kept as part of the public price history, but they are no longer linked to any identifying details. Other items you created (such as vehicles, alerts and fill-ups) are not automatically erased by this step; to have them erased as well, email us at [email protected] and we will do so.
